You are entering a field that is in high demand, so your chances of getting a job and becoming a certified nursing assistant are more than excellent!


CNA training requirements vary from state to state. Please be sure to check those information carefully so you can quickly get started.


CNA Certification, Classes, Schools and Jobs in Alaska

In order to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in the state of Alaska, you must be listed on the Alaska Board of Nursing’s Nurse Aide Registry. To be eligible to apply, you must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:

  1. Successful completion of a state approved Nurse Aide training course within the last 2 years.
  2. Possess a nurse’s license (valid or lapsed) that was issued by a state or territory of the US, or a province of Canada.
  3. Successful completion of at least 1 year of nursing education from a nursing school approved by a US state or territory, or a province of Canada. Your training must have been completed within the last 5 years, and include both classroom and clinical instruction.
  4. Successful completion of a US corpsman or medic training program within the last 10 years, and service as a corpsman or medic in the US military within the last 5 years.
  5. Successful completion of a nurse training program in a foreign country other than Canada.
Assuming that you have never been a engaged in any CNA classes in Alaska, and do not hold a valid CNA license in another state…

FIRST: Make sure that you meet at least ONE of the requirements above. If need to find a CNA programs in Alaska, check out the list of state approved Nurse Aid training programs.

SECOND: Complete and send in a notarized Application for Certified Nurse Aide by Examination. Your application must include a recent passport-size photo (2×2), and a check or money order for $279, made payable to the STATE OF ALASKA. It should also include a completed fingerprint card, which you can find here.

THIRD: Complete the first section of the “Verification of Training for the Alaska Nurse Aide Registry” form (part of the application packet) and submit it to the facility where you completed your training program.

FOURTH: If your application is accepted, you must then take the CNA Licensing Examination so that you can have your CNA certification in Alaska. Exam dates can be found on the State of Alaska Online Public Notice website. Navigate to “By Dept” -> “Commerce Community and Economic Development” -> “Public Notices: Licensing Examinations” -> “Nurse Aides”. This site also contains a phone number to call to sign up for the exam.

“What If I Already Have a CNA License From Another State?”

If you have CNA license from another state, you should submit an Application for Certified Nurse Aide by Endorsement, instead. To do so, you must meet ALL of the following requirements:
  • Have proof of completion of a state approved Nurse Aide training course.
  • Possess a valid and current CNA certification from a state or territory of the US, or a province of Canada.
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Aide competency evaluation that meets Alaska state regulations.
The application procedure is the same as for someone who has not been certified before, minus the competency evaluation.
